Spain & Italy: 11 Days Madrid, Barcelona to Rome
Discover the best of Spain and Italy on this relaxed 11 day tour. Begin in Madrid with royal palaces, world-class art and lively tapas bars. Then travel by high speed train to Barcelona to see Gaudí's Sagrada Família, the Gothic Quarter and the Mediterranean seafront. Every transfer on land uses public transport, with at most one change and no journey longer than 4 hours. That means less time in transit and more time exploring. You stay in centrally located 4★ hotels, close to the metro or railway station and the main sights, and start each day with a relaxed hotel breakfast.
Highlights

Itinerary
Morning You land at Madrid-Barajas Airport and travel into the city entirely by public transport. The Exprés Aeropuerto bus runs 24 hours a day to Atocha station and takes about 40 minutes, and metro Line 8 runs from the airport to Nuevos Ministerios, where you change to a central line. Either way, allow 45 minutes to 1 hour to reach your hotel.
Afternoon You will stay at a centrally located 4★ hotel near Puerta del Sol or Gran Vía, a short walk from a metro station. After settling in, walk to Puerta del Sol, the symbolic centre of Spain, and on to the arcaded Plaza Mayor. Stop at Chocolatería San Ginés for thick hot chocolate and churros.
Evening Stroll through the Sabatini Gardens to the Temple of Debod and watch the sun set over the city. Spaniards dine late, so enjoy a first tapas dinner around 8:30 or 9:00 pm in La Latina, with croquetas, jamón ibérico and a glass of Rioja. Early night after a long journey
